Treatment with copper sulphate, mercuric chloride, salicylic acid, UV light and cell wall elicitor induced the activities of peroxidase and catalase enzymes. Initially, the response of the seedlings towards elicitation was low, which gradually increased after 24 h and reached its peak between 48 to 72 h varying with species and seedling tissue. Similarly, the magnitude of peak activity was also dependent on the species, elicitor and seedling part.
