Abstract

The seeds of linseed (Linum usitatissimum) were analyzed for optical, gravimetric and chemical properties like length, breadth, thickness, color bulk density, true density, porosity, fat, fibre and minerals. The linseed oil showed color values (L = 96.79, a =-0.968, b = 6.102), viscosity (26 cP) and specific gravity (0.902). The chemical properties of oil indicated saponification value [190.4mg KOH/g of oil], iodine value [178g/100 g of oil], acid value [1.046mg KOH/g of oil], peroxide value [1.46Meq/Kg] and ester value [189.354]. The chemical characterization study by using FTIR, TGA, DSC, HNMR and gas chroma to graphy was also performed.
