Abstract

An investigation on vegetative, floral and yield attributes of gladiolus in response to spacing and corm size was carried out during rabi season of 201516 at Floriculture Unit, Horticulture section, College of Agriculture, Nagpur with nine treatment combinations in Factorial Randomized Block Design. The treatments comprised of three different spacing viz., S1 45 cm x 15 cm, S2 30 cm x 20 cm and S3 30 cm x 15 cm and three different corm sizes viz., C1 Large (5–6 cm dia.), C2-Medium (4–5 cm dia.) and C3-Small (3–4 cm dia.). The results revealed that, significantly maximum number of shoots and leaves plant, longest flowering span, earliest first spike emergence, opening of first floret, maximum length of rachis, diameter of spike, vase life of spike and weight of corms plant−1 in gladiolus were recorded with wider spacing and large sized corms. However, per plot yield of gladiolus spikes and corms was highest when large sized corms were planted at closer spacing on raised beds.
