Abstract

Field experiment was undertaken during kharif season of 2009 at College of Horticulture, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola to evaluate growth, yield and seed production of tomato. The treatments included two biofertilizers (B1-Azotobacter, B2-Azospirillum) and four levels of nitrogen (N0 Control, N1-75 Kg N/ha, N2-100 Kg N/ha and N3-125 Kg N/ha) applied individually and in combination. The treatments were replicated thrice in completely randomized design. Amongst the biofertilizers, treatment with Azotobacter recorded maximum growth, yield and seed production which was followed by Azospirillum. Application of nitrogen 125 Kg N/ha resulted in superior growth, with significantly higher fruit yield and seed production. The treatment combination Azotobacter + 100Kg N/ha was found to be most suitable for favorable growth and higher yields. Highest seed production was observed due to the treatment with Azotobacter and 125 KgN/ha.
