Studies on tomato leaf curl virus disease in segregating populations of tomato

Abstract

The per cent disease incidence and coefficient of infection of Leaf curl disease caused by Tomato Leaf Curl Virus (TLCV) was studied in ten progenies of cross M-3-1 x 18-1-1 at F5 and F6 generations during summer season of 2010 and 2011. The observation were recorded up to120 days after transplanting (DAT). The TLCV disease incidence ranged from 5.20 to11.41 whereas in susceptible check Punjab Chuhhara it was very high (74.89%) in F5 generation. The coefficient of infection ranged from 0.24 to 1.33 showing that, those were highly resistant to leaf curl virus disease, whereas in susceptible check Punjab Chuhhara it was very high (40.97). During F6 generation per cent disease incidence ranged from 5.33 to 11.75 per cent whereas in susceptible check (Punjab Chuhhara) it was 54.12%. The coefficient of infection ranged from 0.20 to 1.02, as against 56.11 in susceptible check, indicating resistance to leaf curl virus disease. PCR studies revealed that, the genotypes under study were negative in reaction for the Karnataka strain of tomato leaf curl virus (TLCV).
