Abstract

Seed morphology of four commonly occurring taxa from genus Commelina (C. benghalensis C. auriculata C. diffusa and C. for skaolii) was studied to facilitate botanical identification. Seed surface ornamentation among them e.g. deep angled reticulations in C. auriculata; rough irregular pittings in C. benghalensis; slight minor pitted surface in C. diffusa and absence of reticulation in C. forskaolii and occurrence of attached appendages only in C. diffusa possessed most accurate and reliable morphological descriptors for identification.
