Prevalence of twister disease of onion in coastal tract of Karnataka and its integrated management

Survey on Twister disease of onion was carried out at coastal Karnataka to find out its incidence and severity during 2011–12 and 2012–13. The study revealed that severity of this disease varied from locality to locality; highest per cent disease index (PDI) of twister disease (24.05 and 29.37 per cent) was observed in Uttar Kannada district during 2012 and 2013 respectively. Symptoms of the disease included twisting of leaf and neck with blight as well as dieback (anthracnose) and scanty root system with galls. Field trial was undertaken with kumta local variety of onion to find out the effect of integrated nutrient management against twister disease of onion. The results indicated that the Adoptive module (Soil application of FYM @ 30 t/ha + 200 kg/ha neem cake + seed treatment with vitavax power (2 g/kg) + seedling dip with Pseudomonas sp. (10 g/l) + spray of Hexaconazole + Profenophos @ 0.1%, Bacillus subtillus10 g/l at 15 days interval) recorded least PDI (19.86), which was followed by T₅ (Adoptive + Nutrient module) (21.71 PDI) which remained at par with each other.
