The coolant water discharge area of the thermal power plant of Tuticorin has been investigated during November 2011 to May 2012. Maximum copper (0.083mg/l), zinc (5.25 mg/l), iron (0.077mg/l) and aluminium (6.75mg/l) contents, observed during present investigation were slightly higher due to the discharge of thermal effluent. These heavy metals were present in the order of Al > Fe > Cu > Zn.
