Heavy metal concentration in coastal water of tuticorin contaminated by thermal power plant effluent

Abstract

The coolant water discharge area of the thermal power plant of Tuticorin has been investigated during November 2011 to May 2012. Maximum copper (0.083mg/l), zinc (5.25 mg/l), iron (0.077mg/l) and aluminium (6.75mg/l) contents, observed during present investigation were slightly higher due to the discharge of thermal effluent. These heavy metals were present in the order of Al > Fe > Cu > Zn.
