Genetic variability, character association and path analysis studies in roselle (Hibiscus Sabdariffa L.) for fibre yield

Abstract

Genetic variability, correlation and path analysis were studied in a set of 40 diverse genotypes of roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.). Phenotypic as well as genotypic coefficients of variability (PCV and GCV) were high for fibre yield and green weight, while medium for other characters like plant height and base diameter. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance was observed for fibre yield per plant, green weight per plant and base diameter. Fibre yield per plant was significantly and positively correlated with plant height, base diameter, green weight per plant and fibre wood ratio both at phenotypic and genotypic levels. Plant height, base diameter and green weight per plant also exhibited significant correlations among themselves. Green weight per plant had maximum direct effect on fibre yield per plant, followed by fibre wood ratio, plant height and base diameter.
