Abstract

The field experiment on response of amaranth (Amaranthus tricolor L.) cv. Konkan Durangi under Konkan agro-climatic conditions of Maharashtra was undertaken at Agricultural Research Station, Awashi, Tal. Khed, Dist. Ratnagiri, (M.S.), during 2014–15 in Split Plot Design with three replications. There were two factors viz. spacing and clipping. The spacing's (S1, S2, S3 and S4) were treated as main plot treatment while clippings (C1, C2, C3 and C4) were treated as sub plot treatment. The growth parameters viz., plant height, stalk diameter, number of branches per plant, number of nodes, inter-nodal length, green herbage yield (g/plot), seed yield (g)/plant, seed yield (kg/plot) and seed yield (t/ha) were evaluated. Row spacing (line sowing) had significant effect on most of the parameters studied. With the increase in row spacing there was increase in plant height, stalk diameter, number of branches, number of nodes and inter nodal length. Sowing of the plants in 40 cm apart rows, with clipping at 30 days after sowing showed significantly higher seed yield of Amaranthus tricolor L. The variation in yield was significant due to the clipping, as well as its interaction with row spacings.
