Among the red rice varieties, Prathaysa was semi-dwarf (98 cm), short duration (100–110 days), medium tillering, non-photosensitive variety with long bold red kernelled grains. Varieties Athira and Karuna were late maturing (140–145 days). Harsha red rice variety was very susceptible to lodging. Highest seed weight was recorded in cultivar Pavithra (24.3 g/1000 seeds), a mid duration (115–125 days) crop having red medium bold seeds. It was resistant to gall midge, and was found to be well suited to both kharif and rabi seasons, and even for third crop. Its yield was around 55 q/ha. IRGA-318-11-6-9-2B from Philippines was mid duration (135 days) variety with long red bold seeds, erect flag leaf. It was 110 cm tall and was resistant to gall midge. The speciality of this line was submergence tolerant (up to 8–10 days). Non-sattering type with owned land races were submergence tolerant (Karekagga and Belekagga) collected from Kumata region. Present study indicated that there was enough genetic diversity among the landraces and germplasms, which can be helpful to the breeders to choose suitable parents for crop improvement.
