Abstract

The values of pH, CaCO3 and high smectitic clays are the dominant parameters limiting suitability of cotton. Due to severe limitation of drainage and pH, the soils of Sodic Haplusterts (P7) and Sodic Calicusterts(P8) are rated as marginally suitable (S1) in respect of pH and moderately suitable (S2) owing to moderate limitation of drainage. The moderate limitation of clay and CaCO3 content in Typic Haplustepts and Vertic Haplustepts (P1 to P5) rated these soils as moderately suitable as per NBSS & LUP criteria.
