Present communication gives comprehensive information on ferns of Maharashtra, based on the investigations undertaken by the authors. During present investigation, an account of 77 fern species belonging to 20 families and 45 genera occurring in Maharashtra has been summarised. Out of them 64 ferns (83%) were terrestrial, wherein forty-six were mesophytes and eighteen species lithophytes. Nine species (12%) were epiphytes and remaining four species (5%) hydrophytes. There were two climbers, Lygodium flexuossum and L. microphyllum while remaining species were erect or semi-erect herbs.
