Abstract

Research work on leaf protein was initiated at the Department of Botany, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad in the year 1967. Attempts were made to investigate various aspects of leaf protein extraction using the technique of Green Crop Fractionation (GCF) in the laboratory, under field conditions as well as on farm. Present communication gives brief account of the work undertaken on LP in the Department. However, only the important findings have been highlighted, leaving behind insight into the details of the results. It is concluded that, in spite of the work on LP for 40 years it was not possible to make it available for poor peoples as a cheap source of protein.
