Variationin the occurrence of major sucking pests on mulberry in West Bengal, India

Abstract

The data on pest infestation in four major Sericultural districts of West Bengal Malda, Murshidabad, Birbhumand Nadia, along with weather parameters from 2014 to 2017 were statistically analysed to determine season-wise pest infestation and influence of weather conditions on pest infesta tion. The thrips infestation started from February, reaching peak in April, continued up to October, and they disappeared during November to January. Maximum temperature showed significant correlation with thrips infestation. Highest whitefly infestation was recorded during October, while mulberry gardens were free from whitefly during January to February. Minimum relative humidity had significant positive correlation with the infestation of whitefly. Infestation of mealy bug started from April and continued till September, reaching highest incidence in June. Temperature showed significant positive correlation with mealy bug infestation.
