Abundance of airborbne algae over water reservoir

Abstract

Abundance of airborne algae over Andhari water reservoir, located in Sillod tehsil of Aurangabad district (Maharashtra) was studied. The experiments were conducted for two consecutive years i.e. from August 2014 to July 2016. Total 95 algal samples were obtained during study tenure. Total 85 airborne algal taxa under 37 genera belonging to Chlorophyceae, Bacillariophyceae and Cyanophyceae were collected, cultured, identified and recorded. Cynophyceae members dominated airborne algal flora. Algal genera such as Gloeocystis, Chlorococcum, Trebouxia, Chlorella, Ankistrodesmus, Cymbella, Gomphonema, Nitzschia, Chroococcus, Gloeocapsa, Gloeothece, Aphanothece, Myxosarcina, Phormidium, Microcoleus, Nostoc, Plectonema, Scytonema and Haplosiphon were predominant. Winter and summer seasons were more suitable for richness of airborne algae.
