Cercophora limneticum, a new species was encountered on decorticated submerged woody debris from Aner dam, a fresh water reservoir on Aner river, Shirpur, Maharashtra. The fungus was distinguished on the basis of its superficial, glabrous, black, and solitary ascomata; asci without subapical globule; mature ascospores becoming differentiated into apical brown head and a basal hyaline pedicel, long lash-like bipolar appendages inside the ascus and freshwater habitat.
