Abstract

It has been observed that the spectrum and frequency of viable mutations reduce with increasing concentrations/doses of EMS, SAand gamma rays. This could be due to differential mode of action of the mutagens on different base sequences in various genes. A wide spectrum of viable mutants with varying morphological traits was observed in M2 generation of both the cultivars of Chickpea. The various types of viable mutants obtained in the two cultivars of Chickpea were Tall, Dwarf, Early maturing, Late maturing, High yielding, Anthoseed, Early flowering, Large pod, White seed and Small seed.
