Several species of Cyanophyceae are soil invaders. They form algal crust over soil surface. They contribute to soil micro flora and establish themselves as a major component of it. They take part in enrichment of soil fertility status directly by adding organic material and combined nitrogen to soil. North Maharashtra region was explored to study crust forming algae. There is need to study such beneficial micro flora. Present communication gives an account of some ecologically important crust forming Cyanophycean algae from North Maharashtra region.
