Abstract

Species diversity in butterflies was studied at Udaipur city (Rajasthan), during August 2017 to July 2018, at three habitats viz: Gardens, Agricultural land and Industrial area. Thirty two butterfly species belonging to 5 families of order Lepidoptera were recorded.. Nymphalidae was the dominant family with 12 species; followed by Lycaenidae with 10 species, Pieridae with 4 species and three species each belonging to Papilionidae and Hesperlidae were recorded. The diversity of Butterflies was comparative lower in agricultural land and industrial area, than that in gardens. The higher species richness of butterflies in gardens indicated presence of food plants and sources of nectar.
