Abstract

Bacoside-A is an active ingredient of Bacopa monniera (L.) Pennell, (Scrophulariaceae). It is well known for its potential neuroprotectivity. Due to improper harvesting, seedling death at 2-leaf stage and habitat change there is rapid depletion of B. monniera from its natural habitat, and hence the production of Bacoside-A. Hence, in-vitro techniques for the production of bacoside. Present study revealed that induction of somatic embryo is associated with enhancement of bacoside Acontent in Bacopa monniera (L.) Pennell. Maximum bacoside Acontent was recorded in embryogenic calli.
