During exploration of forest areas of Ranchi District during the year 2017-2018, a less known and rare variety of Butea monosperma (Lam.) Var. Lutea (Witt) Maheshwari (Fabaceae) was reported. It has been recorded for the first time in Jharkhand. Present paper deals with the distribution, status, description, medicinal and economic uses, phyto-chemistry and photographs have been provided.
