Abstract

Freshwater mussels, Parreysia corrugata were treated with 40 mg/l concentration of CaNa2-EDTA for 8 and 15 days. Alkaline phosphatase activity in different tissues was assayed. There was significant reduction in the alkaline phosphatase activities in gills, gonads and hepatopancreas of P. corrugata exposed to CaNa2-EDTA. Chronic Exposure to chelating agent possibly displaced the metal ions from alkaline phosphatase enzyme in the soft tissues of P. corrugata resulting into its depletion.
