Toxicity of insecticides on fishes from Ashti Region (Wardha)

Abstract

Toxicity of Methyl parathion, Chlordane and their mixture in 1: 1 proportion ratio on some locally available freshwater edible fishes found in Ashti (District-Wardha) was studied. The 96 hrs. LC50 values for Methyl parathion to different fish species such as Channa punctatus, Channa striatus, Cyprinus carpio, Cirrhinus mrigal, Clarias batracus, Catla catla and Labeo rohita were 6.606, 6.423, 6.312, 6.123, 6.007, 5.986 and 5.687 mg/l respectively as against 0.150, 0.143. 0.137, 0.129, 0.120, 0.110 and 0.105 mg/l respectively for Chlordane, and 0.311, 0.302, 0.295, 0.284, 0.260, 0.254 and 0.239 mg/l respectively under the influence of the mixture of both fungicides in equal proportion.
