Phytochemical screening of Acorus calamus rhizome was done using the technique of by GC-MS (Gas chromatography and Mass Spectroscopy). Presence of Diethyl Phthalate Phthalic acid-ethyl isoporpyl ester, 5-Methyl-2-trimethylsilyloxy-acetophenone, Tetrasiloxane, Phthalic acid-ethyl pent-2-en-4-yn-1-yl ester, Asarone-2, 4, 5-Trimethoxypropenylbenzene, Methyltris (trimethylsiloxy) silane, Benzene, 1, 2, 4-trimethoxy-5-(1-propenyl) was observed during the screening. Out of these, some of the phytoconstituents like a-asarone and B-asarone are known to have genotoxicity and mutagenicity. Hence, the results obtained in the present work will be useful in ayurvedic formulations
