Effect of carboplatin on sperms of male albino rat rattus norvegicus

Administration of Carboplatin @ 5 mg/Kg body weight resulted into oligozoospermia due to partial arrest of spermatogenesis, resulting in decreased sperm count. Azoospermic condition was also noticed due to partial atrophy or dysfunction of testis. Abnormalities and morphological defects in the sperms were also observed following two doses of carboplatin, which included amorphous head, headless sperm, decapitated, detached head, deformed head, extremely curved head, reduced curvature of head, flattened or banana shaped head and tail coiling, Thus, Carboplatin apart from spermatogenesis, interferes in the maturation of spermatozoa.
