Pavetta crassicaulis,. belongs to family Rubiaceae. Its leaves are used to treat piles and bone fracture in traditional medicinal system. Present investigation was carried out to find out chemical components in the leaves of this plant following GC-MS technique. Ten chemical compounds were identified in methanol extract of the leaves, which included 4H-Pyran-4-one, 2, 3-dihydro-3, 5-dihydroxy-6-methyl (10.83%); n-Hexadecanoic acid (26.23%); 9,12,15-Octadecatrien-1-ol (12.65%) and Squalene (14.85%), 3,7,11,15-Tetramethyl-2-hexadecen-1-ol (8.37%); 1,4-Eicosadiene (2.36%); Hexadecanoic acid, methyl ester (7.01%); 9,12,15-Octadecatrienoic acid, methyl ester (5.33%); Octadecanoic acid (3.40%) and Palmitic acid, beta-monoglyceride (9.00%). Many of these phytocomponents have antiarthritic, hepatoprotective, antihistaminic, anti inflammatory, hypocholesterolemic, analgesic, antioxidant, and antipyretic properties which justify the folklore use of the leaves of P. crassicaulis in traditional medicinal system.
