Streptomyces are well known for the production of bioactive compounds. During present investigation, isolates of Streptomyces were separated from rhizospheric soils of leguminous plants, and tested for antimicrobial activity against B. subtilis, E. coli, K. pneumoniea, S. aureaus, S. typhi, V. parahameolytics and C. albicans. The Streptomyces species viz. Streptomyces rochei and S. luteus had potential to inhibit growth of B. subtilis, E. coli, K. pneumoniea, S. aureaus, S. typhi, V. parahameolytics and C. albicans. Hence Streptomyces rochei and S. luteus were used for the production of bioactive compounds.
