Abstract

Present study was undertaken to observe changes in the pattern of forest cover at Behali Reserve Forest, Assam over a period of 20 years using remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS). The study revealed that the total forest cover declined from 67.94 km2 during 2002 to 65.32 km2 in 2010 and was further reduced to 64.41 km2 in 2021. Around 30.83% decline in the dense forest area was observed, along with rapid increase in agricultural land during 2000 to 2021.
