Seasonal variation in dissolved mineral elements present in water samples collected from three lakes of Srinagar was studied. Higher concentrations of Zn, Cr and Pb were observed during summer, while it declined slightly during autumn and significantly during winter. However, the concentration of these elements in water showed significant increase during spring, attained maximum value during summer. The concentration of these elements appeared in the order of summer>autumn>spring>winter.Ever increasing anthropogenic activities during summer might be one of the reasons behind accumulation of these elements. Continuous monitoring of these lakes with adoption of strict discharge protocols should help us to take appropriate control measures to reduce the contamination of these lakes especially during summer.
