Diversity of butterflies at Hiranvel, Gir Somnath, Gujarat, India

Abstract

Present study was undertaken at Hiranvel, Gujarat, India during October 2020 to March 2021 using Pollard walk method for observing butterflies. Total 4024 butterflies were observed. In all Fifty-six species of butterflies were recorded belonging to five families and forty one genera. Maximum number of individuals were recorded from family Nymphalidae (33.93%) followed by Pieridae (28.57%), Lycaenidae (25%), Papilionidae (7.14%) and Hesperiidae (5.36%). Out of the total recorded species, five species have been listed under Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, while six species have IUCN status of Least Concern.
