Abstract

During the present study the effect of multiple mutagens such as gamma rays, EMS, and their combination treatment on M1, M2, and M3 generations of the Niger (Guizotia abyssinica cass), an oil seed crop, was investigated. The M1 generation was assessed on the basis of lethality (L), seedlings injury (I), and pollen sterility (S). Mutagenic effectiveness and efficiency were determined on the basis of the characteristics observed in M2 population. It was observed that, with increasing doses or treatments, mutagenic effectiveness decreased. The mutagenic efficiency was higher when these two mutagens were applied in combination, rather than their use alone.
