Abstract

Hybosorus orientalis known as scavenger scarab beetle, feeds on decaying vegetation or on the dung of grazing animals. The karyotype of H. orientalis, is comprised of20 chromosomes with meio-formula, 9AA+Xyp. The silver nitrate banding analysis reveals small blocks located in different regions of the chromosomes in Pachytene stage which represent the Nucleolus Organizer Regions (NORs). Therefore cytogenetic analysis of H. orientalis plays an important role in taxonomy and specially inter-relation between two subfamilies Geotupinae and Scarabaeinae.
