Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a biopolymer that resembles synthetic plastics. During present investigation attempts were made to isolate PHB-producing yeast strains from garden soil. Primary screening of the isolates was performed for PHB production using Sudan Black B, while it was extracted by sodium hypochlorite digestion method. Extracted PHBs were quantified by UV-VIS spectroscopy and characterized by FTIR and DSC. About 25.88% PHB was extracted.
