Abstract

Cipadessa baccifera belongs to family Meliaceae and is commonly called as Ranbili or Narang. Traditionally leaves of this plant are used in the treatment of urine stone, snake bite, psoriasis and dysentery. The HPTLC fingerprint analysis of this plant was carried out by employing Toluene: Chloroform: Ethyl alcohol (4:4:1) as mobile phase. The HPTLC fingerprinting of the leaf extracts showed several peaks with different Rf values. Methanol leaf extract of Cipadessa baccifera showed fifteen peaks, indicating presence of fifteen different constituents, among which peaks of polyphenol and alkaloids were prominent. This HPTLC fingerprint profile can be used in the identification of the adulterants and may act as biochemical markers for this medicinally important plant.
