Abstract

Induced mutation is one of the ways employed to generate genetic variations for creating new varieties of Black gram (Vigna mungo L.). This tool is important in plant improvement, which is a valuable approach for plant breeding. An investigation on the effects of some chemical mutagens like Sodium azide (SA) and ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS) was conducted in order to obtain induced mutants of Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper, which is commonly called as black gram (or urdbean). The impact of chemical mutagens like Sodium azide (@ 0.01, 0.02, and 0.03 %) and ethyl methane sulphonate (@ 0.05, 0.10, and 0.15%) was studied for this purpose.
