Abstract

The seeds of Grass pea (Lathyrus sativus L.) were treated with various doses of chemical mutagens [EMS (0.05, 0.10 and 0.15%); SA (0.05, 0.10 and 0.15%); NMU (0.15, 0.30 and 0.45%)] and physical mutagen (Gamma rays-15, 30, 45 GY). The per cent plant survival at flowering stage gradually decreased with the increase in the doses of chemical and physical mutagens. It was 68.35 to 38.74% in EMS (0.05 to 0.15 %); 69.57 to 32.67% in SA(0.05 to 0.15%); 71.02 to 38.91% in NMU (0.15 to 0.45%) and in Gamma Rays it was 70.45 to 37.95% (15 to 45 Gy) respectively. The impact of various doses of physical and chemical mutagens showed significant reduction in pollen fertility in M1 generation over control.
