Abstract

Vector-borne diseases constitute a serious threat worldwide. The control of these vectors is one of the main strategies for preventing such diseases that includes the use of various insecticides. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the larvicidal activity of alcoholic extracts of Piper nigrum and Eucalyptus globulus against filarial vector Culex. The percent mortality was recorded after 24 and 48 hours of exposure, and LC50 and LC50 values were calculated. The results indicated that both plants exhibited high larvicidal activity against Culex. It was higher in case of Piper nigrum, than that in Eucalyptus globulus. The plant extracts can thus be used in the preparation of potential insecticidal agents to control mosquito vectors.
