Collection and Identification of Mushrooms in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand

Mushrooms are the fruiting bodies of fleshy fungi. They can provide a good source of nutritional and medicinal bioactive compounds. Mushrooms have been consumed by people from many countries around the world for thousands of years. However, the information regarding the mushrooms found in the West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand is relatively scanty. In the present investigation that was undertaken, the collection of 20 to 12 mushrooms was collected from different places in this area. The fruiting structures like the cap, stalk, gills, volva, and annulus were present or absent during observation and collection. The shape and colour of fruit bodies were also recorded. The edibility of the collected edible mushrooms was also ascertained by obtaining information from locals and tribals who consumed the same. The 12 edible mushrooms collected out of 20 are Macrolepiota procera, Termitomyces clypeatus, T. heimii, Lycoperdon, Calvatia, Geastrum, Boletus edulis, Russula, Termitomyces microcarpous, Amanita, etc. The 12 collected edible mushrooms, out of 20, that are Macrolepiota procera, Termitomyces clypeatus, T. heimii, Lycoperdon, Calvatia, Geastrum, Boletus edulis, Russula, Termitomyces microcarpous, Amanita, Clitocybe, Armillaria, etc., have excellent edibility. The flavours of the edible mushrooms collected were different, such as cheese, vegetables, fish, and chicken. This review paper tries to outline recent efforts made in order to collect, identify, and maintain mushrooms.
