The Pyrenomycetous species, Hypocrea peltata (Jungh.) Berk., belonging to family Hypocreaceae of the order Hypocreales is illustrated and described. This species was erroneously identifiedand published from Maharashtra as Hypocrea gigantiea Petch. In present study the species is restudied and described on the basis of updated literature. This makes a new record to the fungi of the Maharashtra State.
