Centella asiatica, commonly known as mandukaparni is perennial herbaceous creeper belonging to the family Apiaceae. The plant is used as Ayurvedic medicine, as blood purifier as well as for treating hypertension, for memory enhancement and promoting longevity. Centella asiatica is used for revitalizing the nerves and brain cells. During present investigation phytochemical screening of Centella asiatica was undertaken wherein the bioactive compounds were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrophotometry. The GC-MS analysis suggested presence of Napthalene, Alpha Copaene, Beta Copaene Azulene, Germacrene D etc., which have been reported to be responsible for treating various diseases and revitalizing the nerves and brain cells.
