Glossopteris chhindw arensis, from permotriassic beds of Kamthi stage, Perasia, district-Chhindwara, India

Glossopteris proved is the dominant genus, and hence the lower Gondwana flora is also known as Glossopteris flora. The present specimen is from Sethia open cast mine, Perasia, District Chhindwara. Leaf small in size, acute apex, base acute to cuneate, shape lanceolate, midrib is not prominent, L/B ratio is 3:1, lateral vein arises at an angle of 35° to 40° which is slightly curved outwards running towards margin. The secondary veins anastomoses to form polygonal meshes of sizes 0.3 to 1 x 2.3 to 5.6 mm. The specimen shows its close affinities with the Glossopteris leaf but differs from its species. Hence it is described as Glossopteris chhindwarensis, wherein the name of the species has been given after the District Chhindwara.
