The moisture on dripping rocks of hilly region sustains growth of algae. Among them, the coccoid algae provided with mucilaginous sheath holds moisture and survive on loose, porous soils of the hills. It forms green, deep olive green to brown black patches on hilly slopes. Eighteen species of Coccoid algae belonging to the Cyanophyceae were recorded during present investigation from Laling hills, Dhule (M.S.).
