The effect of a methanol extract of Caralluma fimbriata leaves on Pythium ultimum L. was investigated. The results revealed inhibition in the growth of Pythium ultimum under the influence of plant extract. The fraction of the extract was also subjected to GC-MS analysis. The entire plant was found to be rich in alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, phenolic compounds, saponins, and quinones as investigated by GC-MS. According to the analysis, the plant (Caralluma fimbriata Wall.) contains squalene and 1, 2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, which are known to be antifungal compounds.
