The oily pollutants generated from the restaurants, dairy industry and food processing units are of great concern in urban areas. During present study Staphylococcus epidermidis VSJK R5 was isolated from such waste water and its potential to degrade the common edible oils and fat was determined in view of its use in removing these poll utants. The oil degradation by this strain was studied and also optimized.
