Some microorganisms utilize hydrocarbons as source of energy and carbon. These microorganisms are useful in the treatment of, hydrocarbon contaminated places, to get them eradicated and reduce pollution. During present work, an attempt was made to isolate and characterize different toluene degrading bacteria. Two isolates were selected for studying utilization of toluene.
