Abstract

While exploring flora of Jalgaon district in 2020-21 the authors came across a specimen belonging to family Amaranthaceae from Bilakhed village, near Chalisgaon. It showed similarity with Amaranthus spinosus L., however, after critical examination it was confirmed as Amaranthus saradhiana S. Arya et al. (Sp. nov.). The specimen was slightly different in having purple stem and petiole, pubescent stem with undulating outer linings, terminal spike without spines, emergence of single spine at each node and green stripes on tepals in female flowers. It was collected from Maharashtra state for the first time, its Taxonomy, distribution and ecology have been discussed in presentcommunication.
