Abstract

Present study investigates the effect of tributyltin (TBT) on histology of the gills in freshwater bivalve Lamellidens marginalis. The main aim of this study was to find out histological variations caused by emulsion of (tributyltin oxide) TBTO on the gills. TBTO is primarily used as a biocide, but it also acts as a germicide, molluscicide, and wood preservative. The results obtained during present study showed several degenerative changes in the histological structure in the gill of L. marginalis exposed to TBTO at over 94-hr LC50 concentrations
