Identification of sulfate reducing bacterial strain from textile industry effluent through 16s rRNA sequencing

Abstract

Textile industry effluent contains significant levels of dyes, in the form of various chemicals, which may cause environmental pollution, if not properly treated. Present study was undertaken to isolate and identify the bacterial strain from textile industry effluent, capable of reduction of sulfate by employing pour plate technique. It was identified as Achromobacter insuavis and deposited at NCBI under accession number OL797980. Its sulphate reduction ability was tested under specific conditions (pH 8.5, temperature 35°C, sucrose as carbon source, beef extract as nitrogen source, and a carbon/nitrogen ratio of 6:1) for 5 days under static conditions. The results obtained during this study showed that the isolated strain effectively reduced sulphate levels to the extent of 78.57 to 84.79%, in the effluents.
