Antimicrobial activity of Cissus quadrangularis L. stem extracts

Abstract

Cissus quadrangularis L. is a perennial plant of family Vitaceae. Antibacterial activity of aqueous, hexane, and methanolic extracts of plant was screened against Clostridium botulinum, Gardnerella vaginalis, Salmonella typhi, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, by employingagar well diffusion method. Highest antibacterial activity was exhibited by hexane and aqueous extracts as compared to methanolic extract. Different parts of Cissus quadrangularis L. proved to be good for certain antibacterial activities.
